FACS Centre for Affordable Housing has prepared Housing Snapshots for all of the planning sub-regions in Sydney as well as for some of the regions in NSW. These Snapshots are accompanied by more detailed overviews of housing demand, the housing market, housing supply and any gaps, including affordable housing. These will assist councils, planners, community housing providers and others in the preparation of and rationale for housing strategies.
FACS-Housing NSW recently finalised a select tender to community housing providers for new funding to deliver New Generation Boarding House Projects. Four boarding house projects will receive $8.9 million in grant funding to deliver 100 new rooms. These projects in the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney will be a mix of social and affordable housing dwellings. Three projects comprising 82 rooms will be delivered in partnership by Evolve Housing and Pacific Link Community Housing in Woy Woy, Lake Macquarie and Bankstown. The fourth project is a recently completed boarding house located in Newcastle comprising 18 rooms delivered by Compass.
The 2011 Census data is now available in the Local Government Housing Kit Database. The NSW Local Government Housing Kit has been created to help councils, community housing providers and others understand local housing needs and issues and to formulate appropriate local responses. The database provides up-to-date information on housing need and affordability.
Boarding house operators must register with NSW Fair Trading under the new Boarding Houses Act 2012. For more information about registration, or to register, please see NSW Fair Trading website.
In addition the Boarding Houses Regulation 2013 commenced on 1 July 2013. The Regulation provides standards for Assisted Boarding Houses and also sets out some additional requirements for the Boarding Houses Register. Please see Ageing, Disability & Home Care website for further information.
