2000 and beyond

  • A range of initiatives were established under the Inner City Homelessness Action Plan to assist homeless people in Kings Cross, Woolloomooloo, Redfern and Surry Hills. These initiatives were supported by the Partnership Against Homelessness and led by the Department.
  • NSW Businesslink was established in the Department to provide shared corporate services to 18,000 staff in three Government Departments - Housing, Community Services, and Ageing, Disability and Home Care. During 2003-2004 Businesslink was granted independent status.
  • The Centre for Affordable Housing was established in the Department to work with local and state government, non-profit organisations and private companies to bring about better responses to housing affordability.
  • The NSW Government announced a Reshaping Public Housing package of reforms to eligibility, length of tenure, rent levels and passing on water usage costs to tenants in public housing.
