This policy has been revised by the Office of Community Housing to reflect the changes resulting from the 2008 community housing rent reforms. The policy sets out the Office of Community Housing’s requirements for the rent policies operated by community housing providers in NSW.
The policy supersedes all previous rent related guidelines and applies to all properties:
- Governed by lease, funding agreement, deed of agreement or other legal arrangement between a community housing provider and Housing NSW for the supply of social housing;
- Sublet to tenants using a Residential Tenancy Agreement.
The policy does not apply to crisis housing which is not leased to tenants through a Residential Tenancy Agreement or to properties covered by the Guidelines for Affordable Housing Supply delivered by community housing providers.
Housing associations will be the first group of providers to implement the new policy, with the changes coming into effect for new community housing tenants from 1 July 2008, and for existing tenants from 1 August 2008. Housing Co-operatives and other providers are expected to implement the changes from January 2009.
