In January 2008, Housing NSW established a Social Housing Tenants Advisory Committee (SHTAC). The Committee is a consultative mechanism, comprising of social housing tenants from across NSW. The Committee meets four times a year in February, May, August and November in Ashfield.
The Committee is made up of 12 social housing residents from public, community and Aboriginal housing. Committee members are volunteers, committed to working towards achieving a better future for the community. They offer advice and input to Housing NSW, based on their individual knowledge and experience as a social housing tenant.
What does the SHTAC do?
The SHTAC’s role is to provide feedback and comment to Housing NSW on matters that help to improve policies, operations and service delivery to increase tenant satisfaction and tenant participation with Housing NSW services.
While it is encouraged, SHTAC members are not obliged to formally represent social housing tenants’ views on the Committee and/or to report back to social housing tenants on Committee business.
Who supports the SHTAC?
Housing NSW recognises the importance of supporting the SHTAC in its work and a Secretariat has been established in the Client Service Operations Unit for this purpose. The Secretariat assists the members by coordinating meetings and providing logistical support. The Secretariat also serves as a communication channel between the Committee and the broader community, including social housing residents and other stakeholders.
