Access to properties

It is important that you allow Housing NSW contractors into your property to carry out surveys, regular servicing or other maintenance work. You will be contacted by the contractor in advance to arrange a suitable time.

Saturday is a ‘work day’ for contractors, so access to your home may be required on a Saturday to perform maintenance and repairs.

All Housing NSW staff and contractors are required to carry appropriate identification, and you should always ask to see identification before letting anyone into your home.

Property Assessment Surveys

Housing NSW’s contractors conduct Property Assessment Surveys on all homes to determine what maintenance needs to be planned and undertaken. Contractors contact you by letter prior to conducting the survey and the survey takes about an hour.

Maintenance work is then prioritised based on need (as assessed by the surveys) and a comprehensive plan for delivery is developed across all homes.

If a Property Assessment Survey has already been done, you can contact the Housing Contact Centre or your local office to find out when your home is due for planned maintenance services.

Planned Program of Works

A Planned Program of Works for your home is formulated from the Property Assessment Surveys. It lists the types of future repairs that are needed for your home, for example walls painted in five years time, bathroom updated in ten years time.

Asset Dwelling Service

An Asset Dwelling Service is a regular service to keep your home safe and well-maintained. Contractors call around at a pre-arranged time to do minor servicing on selected items such as toilets, external doors and smoke alarms. This is all done in one visit to reduce the inconvenience to you. By checking on the little things, they are less likely to develop into bigger problems in the future.
