Housing NSW has a long history of engaging with its tenants and promoting their participation in aspects of their property and tenancy management, and in their communities. For example, for over 30 years, the agency has invested in a broad range of tenant participation and engagement initiatives.
However, to make sure we continue to engage with clients in a meaningful way, we have developed a draft tenant engagement framework that sets out the strategic direction for tenant engagement by Housing NSW – and defines its scope, participants, outcomes and methods - and how it contributes to Housing NSW’s overall purpose.
For clients, the framework will enable applicants for, and tenants and residents of public and Aboriginal housing properties to know what sort of contributions they can make to the management of their housing services, their tenancies and their communities.
Specifically, the framework will help clarify to Housing NSW staff why, when and how they can engage public and Aboriginal housing applicants, tenants and residents in the provision of housing services, undertaking asset redevelopments and estate renewal, and in building community capacity.
To assist us finalise the tenant engagement framework we are asking for your comments and recommendations.
Please email your feedback to tenant.engagement@dhs.nsw.gov.au before 12 July 2011.
We are also developing a set of community engagement principles for social housing estate redevelopment projects. These principles will support communities affected by estate renewal projects, including social housing tenants, private residents, and other local stakeholders, to have meaningful input into all key stages of the project.
The draft community engagement principles for estate redevelopment projects align with the draft Tenant Engagement Framework. Feedback received on the draft Tenant Engagement Framework will help us refine the community engagement principles.
Housing NSW will undertake a separate consultation process on the draft community engagement principles for estate redevelopment projects. This will occur following the completion of consultation on the Tenant Engagement Framework.
