Public Housing is long-term, affordable housing for people living in NSW on low incomes who are unable to rent privately. The properties are managed by Housing NSW.
Housing NSW creates written residential tenancy agreements with each tenant at the beginning of their tenancy.
Housing NSW offer residential tenancy agreements of different lengths depending on the circumstances of the client, the general policy applying at the time they are offered housing and any specific conditions that may be attached to the particular offer of housing. When Housing NSW signs a client to a Residential Tenancy Agreement it does this in accordance with the requirements of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010.
Tenants living in Public Housing have Rights and Responsibilities. These are set out in their Residential Tenancy Agreement and in Housing NSW policies. The Tenancy Agreement and policies conform to the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 and the Housing Act 2001. Housing NSW will explain its and the client's obligations under the agreement during the sign-up process.
Tenants' responsibilities include paying their rent by the due date, keeping the property clean and reporting any faults or damage as soon as they occur.
Housing NSW responsibilities include paying for council rates, making sure your home is clean before you move in and organising urgent repairs within a reasonable time.
