Applicants (including Transfer applicants) are encouraged to make sure that their housing application forms are carefully completed with all supporting information attached.
To assess the application, Housing NSW will consider the information supplied by the applicant against the eligibility criteria. There are different eligibility criteria for
Housing NSW will then send a letter to the applicant informing them whether or not their application has been approved. The applicant can ask for Housing NSW's decision to be reviewed if they believe the procedures used to reach the decision were incorrect. The appeal or review will reconsider the application and decide whether Housing NSW policy and procedures have been applied correctly and fairly.
The applicant will be placed on the Housing Register if their application is approved.
Applicants are placed on the Housing Register in date order within the category of housing assistance that they have been approved for. The categories (from highest priority to lowest priority) are:
- Emergency Temporary Accommodation
- Priority Housing
- Housing for Elderly People
- Transfers – excluding Transfers approved on grounds of moderate overcrowding or under-occupancy
- Housing Register applications and Transfers approved on grounds of moderate overcrowding and under-occupancy
