Eligible clients who apply for public housing and who have not demonstrated an urgent need for housing, will be placed on the Housing Register in order of application date. Clients approved for housing assistance under the following policies:
- Priority Housing,
- Housing assistance for elderly clients, and
- Transfer clients on a priority basis,
will be housed ahead of other clients on the Housing Register.
When a property becomes available and there are no suitable high-needs clients on the Housing Register, it will be offered to the next appropriate person who has been waiting the longest.
Housing NSW has nomination (referral) arrangements with some community housing providers.
Clients who have expressed interest in community housing on their application form may also be considered for nomination (referral) to a community housing property. Please see the Community Housing - Tenant's Questions and Answers (PDF File 338K) factsheet for more information.
For further information speak to a Client Service Officer at a local office or see the Housing NSW's Wait-Turn Housing policy.
