Transfers

Existing tenants of Housing NSW may apply for a transfer to another dwelling if their existing dwelling is no longer suitable for their needs.

Transfers allocated on a priority basis include those required because of:

  • A medical condition or disability
  • 'At risk' factors, such as domestic violence
  • Family breakdown/separation
  • Serious and ongoing harassment
  • Changes in employment
  • Compassionate grounds
  • Severe overcrowding
  • Tenancy re-instatement

Transfers allocated on a wait turn basis include those required because of:

  • Moderate overcrowding
  • Underoccupancy (excess bedrooms) where there is no medical reason why the tenant cannot maintain the property.

Generally, to be approved for a transfer the tenant must be eligible for public housing.

More information

Tenants interested in a transfer may also be interested in a mutual exchange. Read more about Swapping Houses.
