Eligibility

In the majority of cases, to be eligible for community housing, you must first be eligible for public housing. To be eligible, you must meet the Social Housing Income Eligibility limits effective from 1 July 2011. The new fact sheet Applying for Social Housing (PDF, 476KB) provides more detailed information about the eligibility limits.

A small number of community housing properties are owned by local councils, and in some cases, local councils focus their housing services at particular groups and communities, so their eligibility criteria may vary from other community housing providers.

Affordable housing programs also have different eligibility criteria.  For information about eligibility for Affordable Housing, you should contact the housing provider.  For more information see the Affordable Housing Guidelines (PDF file, 169KB)

Tenant-managed housing co-operatives have distinct eligibility criteria. For information about housing co-ops contact Common Equity NSW.
