The Minto Renewal Project involves the staged redevelopment of approximately 1,000 properties in the Minto public housing area in Sydney’s south west.
Housing NSW, Campbelltown City Council as key landowners and Landcom as the development manager have entered into an agreement for the management of the project.
The aim of the project is to renew Minto so it looks like neighbouring suburbs with a mix of public and private housing. When the redevelopment of Minto is completed there will be approximately 220 public housing homes (including senior’s living units) and approximately 850 private homes. It is expected that the project will be completed in 2016.
The project will also provide $10 million worth of community facilities including new parks and a new community centre which is expected to be completed mid 2012.
Housing NSW established a specialist support team to assist the public housing tenants in the re housing process. Rehousing was completed in November 2011. Over 800 households were rehoused with the majority moving into the neighbouring Campbelltown area.
To support the community through this time of change, Housing NSW introduced Working Together in Minto (WTIM) which brings together Government and non-Government agencies, community representatives and public housing tenants to develop strategies and activities to support those in need in the community. With the completion of the rehousing program, planning for the next phase of this place management model is currently underway with key stakeholders.
More information about the project is available by calling into Working Together In Minto (WTIM) office, 160 Guernsey Ave, Minto or telephoning 8796.0777.
