The Camperdown Project is an integrated social housing project. It will follow the Common Ground model, successfully delivered in New York, to provide permanent housing for previously homeless people, as well as delivering on-site support services that will help them get back on their feet.
The Camperdown project also includes housing for low income workers.
The specially-designed building will be located on a site flanked by Pyrmont Bridge Road, Lyons Road, Lambert Street and Layton Street, Camperdown.
What is being built in Camperdown?
The six-storey property consists of a range of accommodation options including 104 self contained studios, one and two bedroom apartments as well as space for on-site support services on the ground floor. A 24-hour concierge will be on duty in a secure entry lobby. The whole-of-site plan includes a landscaped community garden.
This innovative development will be designed to a 5 star green rating and provides excellent access to local services and public transport for residents.
Grocon Construction commenced work in July 2010 and building works are progressing with the first concrete pour taking place on 23 September 2010. The target completion date for the building is October 2011.
Housing NSW is working with local residents to develop a landscape plan for the site.
Housing NSW's partners for the Camperdown project include the Grocon Consortium as developer and MA Housing as the community housing provider. Housing NSW is also working closely with the Common Ground Advisory Group to develop the service model.
