Planning Bonus on Private Development

One joint approach to the development of affordable housing has been for local government authorities to offer planning bonuses to private developers in exchange for the provision of an agreed level of affordable housing within a new residential development.

This may be in the form of a density bonus to permit a higher density level within a development thereby making the inclusion of affordable housing more financially viable for the developer.

An example of this very approach is described in the Waverley Council case study.
