Technical Advice

The Centre for Affordable Housing is skilled in housing development, has specialised experience in affordable housing provision, and the technical tools to assist with proposed projects.

The Centre can assist by providing technical advice in the following areas:

  • the ways in which planning instruments can be used to maximise affordable housing,
  • how to establish ongoing management arrangements, and
  • the provision of financial models to determine rents and management costs to ensure ongoing viability.

Current planning instruments can be used to maximise affordable housing. For example, the Centre for Affordable Housing can work with local government to facilitate provision of a density bonus to a private developer in exchange for affordable housing. The Centre can also assist in discussions between the developer and the planning authority.

The Centre provides expert advice on the ways in which affordable housing can be managed, assisting with a variety of management requirements, including financial and reporting responsibilities. Assistance can even be given in putting together a process for selecting managers.
