What Does Affordable Housing Look Like

Contemporary affordable housing is designed to look just like any other housing.  Indeed, affordable housing works best when it links visually with its surroundings.

It may include freestanding and terraced housing as well as low and high-rise apartments, and it may form one part of a residential development that might also include private housing or social housing, providing a social mix.

Affordable housing developments have won design awards, for example at City West Housing in Pyrmont, Sydney. Between inception in 1994 and 2009, City West has provided around 446 affordable dwellings in Ultimo and Pyrmont and 45 in Green Square.
