- Member of the Legislative Assembly
- Member for Granville
- Minister for Housing, and Minister for Western Sydney
David Borger has represented the people of Parramatta and Granville since 1995. Before entering Parliament in 2007, David served as the Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Australia’s sixth largest CBD. His first term as Lord Mayor took place in September 1999 when, at the age of 30 years, he was the youngest person to hold the office.
In March 2007 he was also elected the State MP for the seat of Granville and served as Chairman of the Public Works Committee.
He has been studying for a Masters degree in Urban Design at the University of Sydney and holds a Bachelor of Economics.
A former urban planner, David was also housing and planning adviser to the Deputy Premier Andrew Refshauge when the latter was NSW Planning Minister. David is a regular speaker on urban planning issues, city design and on ways to improve mayoral leadership and governance at the local level.
In 2005 David was the co-founder of the NSW Mayors Forum on City Design, with the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Sydney.
On September 8th, 2008 David was sworn in as the Minister for Housing and the Minister for Western Sydney.
David lived in public housing as a child and also has experience working for Hope Hostel, a shelter for homeless men in Parramatta.
He understands the emotion and challenges people face in the Housing sector - whether they are staff working in the industry or people in desperate need of shelter.
He has real experience in dealing with people suffering from disadvantage, mental health issues or homelessness.
David is a passionate advocate for Western Sydney and believes there is much to do to stem the talent drain of young creative people from Western Sydney to the bright lights and urban villages of Sydney.
David lives in Western Sydney and has been married to Giselle for ten years. They have two children Grace and Zoe.
