Earlier this year, major renovation work commenced at the Northcott building in Surry Hills. The upgrades are designed to ensure residents are provided with homes that are more functional and better to live in.
This is a major project, as the Northcott building is the single largest building owned by the Department. The project will provide new kitchens and bathrooms, as well as new plumbing and drainage lines for all 429 apartments in the complex.
The Department held meetings with residents last year to discuss the renovations and to showcase the new kitchen and bathroom layouts in two display units. The new kitchens will provide residents with more storage and bench space, and the new bathroom design enables tenants easier access to their shower and space for a washing machine.
Residents will be temporarily relocated into a completed accommodation unit within the building while their new kitchen and bathroom is being installed. Work will be carried out in stages over the next four years.
