Highlights of 2004-05
- The Department of Housing is the largest provider of residential accommodation in Australia. Investment in new supply provided 683 new units, bringing the portfolio up to nearly 142,000 dwellings.
- Nearly 334,000 people were housed, of which 257,000 were in public housing and 77,000 were in community housing.
- A further 55,700 assistances were provided in the private rental market through Rentstart, Tenancy Guarantees and Special Assistance Subsidies.
- The NSW Government announced a package of reforms to eligibility, length of tenure, rent levels and passing on water usage costs to tenants in public housing.
- Expressions of interest were sought in relation to a $500m public private partnership for the regeneration and renewal of the Bonnyrigg Estate.
- Acquisition of 126 dwellings commenced to provide additional supported accommodation through a partnership with NSW Health for people with mental illness.
