Public housing resident Joy Ross from Surry Hills, is one of the award-winning Seniors Achievers for 2005.
Joy has been a committed advocate of tenants’ rights for over 25 years and established the Older Womens’ Network Neighbourhood Group that provides older women with a support network and opportunities to meet new friends.
She has also worked tirelessly to improve community services and facilities on her estate, including a local park for parents and children, support for intellectually disabled tenants and English classes for tenants from non-English speaking backgrounds.
“I am delighted to have been recognised in these awards and really pleased that the Department has rewarded the efforts of tenants that are active in their community. It proves the work that we do is valued”, Joy said.
