George*, aged in his early forties, had minimal education and vocational training. Limited work skills and an unstable employment history meant he not only lacked personal confidence and self-esteem, but was also facing financial difficulties.
He applied for, and was recruited into, the WorkiT Program Service Maintenance Work Team as a part-time trainee cleaner, with HGT Australia. He also enrolled in a two year Traineeship Certificate III Asset Maintenance/Cleaning Operations (which he successfully completed).
While in the program, George received practical training in Occupational Health & Safety, First Aid, Conflict Resolution and Anger Management. After participating in the Program for 12 months, he secured another part-time cleaning job with HGT.
George’s financial situation and self confidence have improved and, now that he has a personal employment plan, so have his prospects of finding work in the commercial cleaning industry.
