History of JGOS
The Joint Guarantee of Service (JGOS) was established in 1997 as an agreement between NSW Health and the NSW Department of Housing. In 2003, the JGOS was expanded to include:
- NSW Department of Community Services (on behalf of SAAP services)
- NSW Aboriginal Housing Office
- Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW
- NSW Office of Community Housing
- Aboriginal and community housing providers and
- Non-government mental health service providers.
The Department of Housing convenes the JGOS Strategic Partners Committee and the JGOS Implementation Reference Group, which oversee the implementation of the program across NSW.
How does JGOS work?
Under the JGOS, local committees of key service providers work together to address the housing and support needs of mutual clients.
Service providers refer their clients with mental health problems and housing issues to the local committee who will resolve the issues together.
If there is no committee, any of the partner agencies can initiate a JGOS local meeting. The resources available on this website will help in the development of a new local committee and support those that are already operating.
JGOS Resources
The JGOS Resources are to help staff of partner agencies to implement JGOS across NSW.
This document provides the overarching guidelines for operation of the JGOS across NSW including the roles and responsibilities of partner agencies.
This covers information on JGOS, its partners and clients. It is a guide on how to make JGOS work, including tips and strategies for local committees.
There are examples of a local memorandum of understanding, individual service plans, authority to disclose personal and/or health information forms, sample checklists and agendas for holding a JGOS meeting.
