Housing NSW’s recently launched Private Rental Brokerage Service is helping families find private rental properties in the St George area, Housing NSW’s General Manager for Central Sydney, Kathy Roil said today.
Spread across 15 locations in NSW, the Private Rental Brokerage Service provides specialist support and assistance to people struggling to break into the private rental market.
Kathy said the Hurstville office, which also covers areas such as Miranda and Riverwood, has had several successes in locating suitable and affordable accommodation for its clients.
“We have been able to privately house 11 families since August 2007.
“Many who have complex needs and rely on a support network to live independently."
Kathy said one family that was successfully housed in Hurstville had previously submitted 13 unsuccessful applications.
“Once the Hurstville specialist was involved in their case, the applicant secured a meeting with the real estate agent and was able to offer a $1,000 Tenancy Guarantee, courtesy of Housing NSW.
“The applicant and three small children were then offered a three bedroom cottage, which they were ecstatic about.”
The Private Rental Brokerage Service is one of a range of private rental assistance products which Housing NSW is trialling to help boost the success rates of people wishing to secure a private tenancy.
“The service assists in breaking down the common barriers of affordability and availability in the rental market.
“The program has had a high success rate due to the professionalism of staff, and the support of local services and real estate agents who recognise its benefits to the local community,” Kathy said.
