A series of redevelopments in Concord and Abbotsford has been announced as part of the $60.2 million New Direction for Social Housing in the Inner West to deliver 228 new social housing units.
These redevelopments will greatly increase the amount of social housing available in the inner west for frail aged and elderly tenants.
Housing NSW has identified several sites in the Concord and Abbotsford areas, currently containing a total of 37 older style cottages and units and two vacant lots, which will be redeveloped into 102 modern and adaptable seniors units.
By joining several existing smaller units and lots, Housing NSW has created ideal sites for redevelopment, allowing for much better use of the land asset by increasing the housing density and the number of units on each lot.
Through developing these sites, Housing NSW is delivering on its Social Housing for Older People strategy as well as the broader objectives of the Sydney Metropolitan Strategy.
Future tenants of the Concord and Abbotsford developments will have ready access to the many facilities located in the area, including medical, retail, cafes, recreational and public transport, as well as easy access to the Sydney CBD.
Each of the new units will be designed specifically for seniors with generous open space, large bedrooms with built-in robes, spacious bathrooms and laundries, and modern, open-plan kitchens.
All units will feature good quality fittings and will be designed to be adaptable for tenants with a disability or with mobility difficulties by providing suitable circulation space and allowing for full wheelchair movement.
The project has been carefully planned with fully landscaped grounds and buildings designed for easy access to the units. It follows BASIX design standards, which include the use of eco-friendly recyclable rainwater tanks.
The total value of all of these redevelopments is estimated at $28 million.
