The completion of a new $2 million community housing project in Miller for people in need was announced today.
Thirteen new senior living units are now complete at 16–20 Bundemar Street, Miller. They replace three older fibro cottages that no longer met the needs of social housing residents or applicants.
The redevelopment commenced in 2007 and has been extensive. It’s completely changed the appearance of the area and turned it into a modern place to live.
Each unit is self contained and features generous living, kitchen and dining areas, with shared car spaces and a backyard.
These new homes give residents privacy and will provide more options for those most in need in the Miller area.
The site is conveniently located near public transport, and is close to the local shops, medical facilities, and recreational facilities.
The properties will be managed by Affordable Community Housing - a large community housing provider based in Bankstown that manages a diverse range of housing in south western Sydney.
Affordable Community Housing arose through a merger between Western Suburbs Housing Cooperative and Cumberland Housing Cooperative.
This agency provides more effective housing opportunities to people in south west Sydney.
The development is part of an investment of $420 million over the next five years to secure an additional 2,800 homes for older people in social housing.
This is about making sure our investment in community housing meets the growing demand for social housing for older people, especially in areas with ageing populations.
Community housing provides more avenues for older people, many of whom need specialised support, to find a secure home.
This development is indicative of the commitment to providing affordable local housing for those most in need, and the commitment to increase the number of community housing properties in NSW from 13,000 to 30,000 over the next ten years.
