A $100 million master plan to redevelop the Kamira Court public housing site in Villawood was announced today.
This master plan, lodged with Fairfield Council this week, is designed to renew the Villawood town centre as a revitalised commercial and social destination for the local community.
The proposed redevelopment replaces 111 previously demolished public housing units with 427 units in a mix of private and public housing.
Since the decision was taken to demolish Kamira Court, the Iemma Government has been investigating a range of planning options to increase the site’s value, gain higher building densities and increase development opportunities with the private sector.
A number of community consultation workshops were held during 2005 and 2006 with Fairfield City Council and various interest groups including local residents, adjoining land owners and shop keepers.
The scale and timing of the development will depend on private investment, and expressions of interest will called for in the next 12 months.
Construction is expected to start at the end of 2008 and is due for completion in early 2012
