The 1950s

  • Housing Commission became a pioneer developer
  • First planned neighbourhood estate built at Orphan School Creek in Canley Vale, consisting of between 200 and 2000 detached and semi-detached houses with amenities such as shops, schools and hospitals
  • Housing Commission developments commenced in Ryde, Villawood, Maroubra, Seven Hills, Ermington, Rydalmere, Dundas Valley, Windale (Newcastle), Unanderra and Berkeley (Wollongong)
