The Department was awarded the Australia Employer Award in the Government, Higher Education & Recruitment category of the CRS Australia Employer Awards at a ceremony at the Australian Maritime Museum in October 2006.
The annual CRS Australia Employer Awards recognise employers who have provided employment and work training opportunities for job seekers with a disability, injury or health condition.
After facing difficulties in recruiting skilled Technical Officers, the Department created a comprehensive Technical Officer recruitment campaign. A component of this strategy is the employment partnership with CRS which gives the Department access to a pool of qualified potential candidates to fill these specialist roles.
The work training placement allows the trainee to obtain the skills and experience necessary to gain temporary contract employment and then apply for permanent roles as they are advertised.
The Department currently employs seven CRS nominated job seekers: two in Central Sydney; three in Greater Western Sydney; and two in the Northern and Southern & Western Divisions.
